Mac OS X Innovators Contest Update

by Derrick Story
08/06/2004

I've been testing new Mac OS X software lately for an article I'm working on, and it occurred to me that there is a lot of good stuff out there by independent developers. Interestingly enough, many of those developers haven't heard about, or have found the time to enter the 2004 Mac OS X Innovators Contest.

So I thought I'd list a few reasons here why I think it's worth 15 minutes of your time to throw your app in the ring.

For the U.S. entrant winner:

  • Hardware credits: The U.S. winner receives an ADC Premier membership that includes Apple hardware credits that can be used in the exclusive ADC online store. Discounts average about 20 percent.
  • Full WWDC pass: This is the conference of conferences for Mac developers. The U.S. winner of our contest gets a full pass to next year's show.

For U.S. and international winners:

  • Full Mac OS X Conference pass: If WWDC is the number one conference that Mac developers should attend, then O'Reilly's Mac OS X Conference should be #2 on the list. And for hackers ... well, this is the show. All winners receive VIP passes to this year's conference.
  • Promotion of your product and company: We will make sure that the Mac community knows about your winning application and the people who created it. Plus, you'll be able to show visitors on your site that you're an Innovators winner with our official winner's logo.

Just One More Thing

This year's Mac OS X Conference is going to be a really big deal. I can tell you that right now. It's going to receive lots of attention both inside of the halls of the Santa Clara Westin and throughout the Mac community. The winners of the 2004 Mac OS X Innovators contest will be right in the middle of this excitement. We'll announce who won at the conference, throw a reception in honor of all the winners, and let them talk about their applications in a special conference session at the show.

I want to encourage you to enter your app now, even if it's not ready for final release by the deadline date. And please spread the word to other developers who have created innovative software for the Mac platform.

It's important that we get this message out there, not only among the Mac faithful, but to the technology community as a whole. This event shows the world that the Mac OS X platform is the hotbed of innovation. And if you want to use the absolute coolest stuff, this is the place to be.
