Dear Reader,
This week we have Richard Thieme's musings on the essence of
hacking. Called an "online pundit of the hacker culture" by the
"L.A Times" and "extremely subtle and deep" by the "Linux Journal,"
Richard has written an insightful article about his favorite
subject--hackers, saying it "behooves hackers of any definition
to be keenly aware of the ends to which they hack."
"Real Hacking Rules!"
Also, in this week's FreeBSD column Dru Lavigne delves into the
world of DVD playback and tests four applications from the ports
collection to find one that suits her needs.

We also have Michael Bauer's look at some of the reasons why it's
both possible and worthwhile to secure Linux for use as an Internet
server platform. Michael is the author of "Building Secure Servers
